From Wikipedia on Tarot:

The tarot is a set of cards featuring 21 trump cards, the fool, and an extra face card per suit, in addition to the usual suit (face and pip) cards found in ordinary playing cards. Tarot cards are used throughout much of Europe to play Tarot card games.

In English-speaking countries, where the games are largely unknown, Tarot cards came to be utilized primarily for divinatory purposes with the trump cards--along with the Fool card--comprising the 22 major arcana cards and the pip and four face cards the 56 minor arcana.

Myself, I haven’t been doing much Tarot readings since my latest awakening 2 years ago. Perhaps I will look into that again down the road.

I own the Norse Tarot because it is stoic and powerful, and I identify with it. And I also own the ‘Tarot of the Cat People’, because it’s cute.

I usually stuck with the Celtic Cross. My readings always consisted of mostly Greater Arcana, no matter how well shuffled the deck was. And they were extremely accurate.

Some questions for feedback:

There are a great number of tarot decks out there. Which ones have you used, and why?

What tarot spreads do you favor?

And what have been your personal experiences with Tarot, and how accurate has it been for you?

I have worked with Tarot for many years. I can still work with it, though I have not practiced for about a year now. I have been taught the basic ideas behind the suites and the numbers etc, but for the most part I use intuition to tell me what is going on with a person using the images of the card to lead me.

What I have been taught is as follows:

Swords = element of fire, south, action intent, movement, leadership abilities, change

Wands = element of air, east, thoughts and ideas, plans, mental abilities, things that are known

Cups = element of water, west, emotions, dreams, intuition, psychic abilities, things unseen, secrets

Pentacles = element of earth, north, stability, finances, the Self, one's own identity, business, lack of movement or action

Ace = the issue itself, where the person asking the question is in the situation

2 = decision needing to be made, in order to take action something has to be left behind

3 = matters of the heart, feelings, relationships

4 = money, business, legal matters, one's foundation, one's home and family

5 = chance and change, in the act of being transformed into something different

6 = where one is emotionally, what intuition is saying

7 = how you see yourself in the issue, indecision

8 = you have what you need, now this is what you need to do

9 = The battle is over, this is how it ended for you, this is where you see yourself after the problem

10 = completeness of the issue, the end of a matter

Pages = Youthfulness, beginning a new lesson, being a student

Knights = Protector, news bearer, warning

Queens = Feminine aspect of self: nurturing, care for others/self, healing

Kings = masculine aspects of self: assertiveness, leadership, protection

Fool = like a child discovering a new world, unaware of dangers around you

Magician = you have everything you need that you found while being the fool, but you don't know how to use it yet

High Priestess = you found the truth behind everything and found that the scroll is blank. Your silence is the wisdom everyone claims you have

Empress = you're done being the oracle (High Priestess) and you want to start doing things with what you have learned

Emperor = you are assertive with your talents, you want to protect them and those you house in yourself as friends and family

Hierophant = you seek the spiritual side of who you are and as you do so, you are being taught new challenging lessons

Lovers = balance with self and the world around you, harmony

chariot = disruption of that balance, you seek change but you seek it without any direction

Strength = you learn from running around aimlessly in the chariot, that strentgh comes from gentleness and acceptance

Hermit = you are neither of the world nor far from it. Those who seek your wisdom follow the light you bear, but you do not go out to teach. They have to come to you.

Wheel of Fortune = you toss a coin without expectation of how it will turn out ... chance is up to the universe to decide

Justice = You become the authority of your destiny, sometimes this is negative in that you become judgemental of others

Hanged man = somewhere you needlessly sacrificed something important to you

Death = going through a cycle of mutation or metamorphosis in which you can not return from. The end of a cycle.

Temperance = Learn to be at peace with your new path, be ready to walk it and face new obstacles.

Devil = you have the choice to remain chained to your addictions or obssessions. The chains are loose, you can stay or you can break free.

Tower = forced sudden change - but you have warning. It is your choice to stay in the situation and be forced out, or for you to jump while you still have the time.

Star = Now you can cleanse yourself of needless things. Pouring out your emotions you find what is no longer needed.

Moon = Be weary of deceit from others and yourself along your path. many may try to trick you from it - including yourself.

Sun = From night to day, you find the joy in the situation that has lead you through many trials along the way.

Judgement = time to look back and reflect on all that has passed, letting go of all attachments

World = being one with all that is around you

As a reader I've used a few decks. When I was 18 I started learning tarot with the Connelly deck which had pretty pictures and a friendly lighter atmosphere to them. Tried many kinds, but most of them ended up being passed on to my students for their learning. On the occation I use a deck for a reading these days I have a dragon tarot deck that flows well with me, but most of the time I use my traditional reading deck, which is an old linen deck of playing cards. I read cards to help me focus my ability to sense the future, not for the cards themselves. So the simpler playing card deck usually serves my purposes better than the more complicated patterns in Tarot.

I often find tarot is too complicated and involved to teach new ones divination with, but it's good for the more advanced students who've graduated above basic card readings using oracle decks.

While there are many ways to divine the future, or at least get a good guess, tarot cards/astrology is a crock. They are a pseudoscience. The multiple interpretations and vagueness of these interpretations are left in a way that they could apply to nearly anyone, in addition to oftentimes just telling people what they want to hear.

All tarot readings I have gotten have been open-ended, as have been the ones I've tried myself. It's clever, and a good way to make money on the street or whatever, but it's still gimcrack.
